Mom and Dad plant a garden
every spring......
That's just what they always do
Okay....
If Mom and Dad did it
Well, heck then...I will too

Now when they did this
I was never around
You could look high and low
I was nowhere to be found



I was a teenager
Had friends to see and places to go
Kids just make themselves scarce
when there's stuff to do around the house
you know

Okay now...back to this garden thing
I got married and left home, you see
I'll be like Mom and Dad
I mean....
Planting a garden....
How hard can it be????



I went out in my yard and found the
perfect spot
The sun shines there in the day
Not too cool and not too hot

Got a shovel to turn the soil
Soil I say????
Darn......
This ground is made of rock
I pounded and beat at that dirt
till I almost went into shock!!!

Ah....Hello Dad?
Yes, it's me, gonna plant a garden
just like you
Now, I got this shovel
Beating this rock-hard ground
Can't seem to find soft dirt......
What can I do???

Uh-huh....I seeeee
Rototiller, you say?
Uh-huh.....I seeeeee
Hmmmm..... Ahhhh...Dad?
Just what IS a Rototiller, by the way?
Okay....
Jump into the car
So there I went
Get a Rototiller too rent



I hauled that baby home
in the trunk
Now I was really cookin'
Back by my "garden"
this "tiller" and me
I'm standin' there....just lookin'

Ah....Hello Dad?
Before I take this stupid thing apart
How do I get it to start????
Uh-huh....I seeeee
Gotta put gasoline in it you say
Okie dokie, Dad....
Oh, and "Thanks" by the way



I'm really excited now
Can just taste those fresh
vegetables already
Got the gasoline
Pourin' it into the 'tiller
slow and steady

That thing pulled me
all around
But it sure did
break up the ground

Now I was nowhere
near done, yet
But, had to stop for the day
Here comes the sunset



Up the next morning
at the crack of dawn
Do I really have to get up
I start too yawn

Ah....Hello Dad?
You should see my yard!!!!
Well, that Rototiller really paid off
The ground's not hard
Uh-huh....I seeeee
Fertilizer you say???
I gotta buy WHAT?!?!?!?!
I spread THAT on the ground????
No Way!!
Uh-huh...I see....Well, Okay
Mix it in the dirt really good
Run that Rototiller around..........
Again........
SIGH.....Here I go
back and forth over the same
spots where I've already been
Gotta mix this great smellin'
"fertilizer" in



Whew....that was a lot of work
But it's worth it...
These vegetables
are gonna taste great....
I can't wait!!

I planted the seeds....
And I watered that garden
with so much care
I'm gonna have a lot of vegetables
I can almost see them grown there

the tiny little plants....

Ahhh, Yes Dad...
I said that I....

What didn't get eatin'
by the bugs and the pests
The rabbits ate the rest.....

Bug killer you say????
And some stuff called
"Skat?"
To keep the rabbits away?



Ahhhhhhh......
Dad, Thanks so much

I really learned a lot here

What did I learn????
I learned that you and Mom
think this gardening stuff
is really cool
AND....
Where my garden "WAS".......
I'm puttin' in a
SWIMMING POOL!!!!!
