I had a funny neighbor
Well, that's how she seemed to me
She was a talker & a gossip
A walking busy bee

If you needed information
She'd be the one to ask
To find the dirt on everyone
Just seemed to be her task

I tended to avoid her
I don't like that kind of talk
But some times she would catch me
As I took my morning walk

Somehow I had to stop her
That evil talking had to end
Maybe all she needed
Was to find herself a friend

So one day I went to her home
I called on her because
No, I didn't want the gossip
I went to see just how SHE was

I listened as she opened up
And talked about herself
She said she felt forgotten
Like a nick-knack on a shelf

Her children had all moved away
With families of their own
And her husband had passed years ago
So now she was alone

She chatted on for hours
A flood came pouring out
Now I think that I can see
Just what she is about

I don't believe that gossiping
Was ever her intension
What I think she wanted most
Was the human interjection

Now we visit regular
And everything is fine
And Yes, I will admit it
She is a friend of mine

Although we're talking often
She doesn't gossip near so much
It's amazing what can happen
With a little human touch

So if you know someone who's like that
And seems to gossip to no end
Take the time … investigate
You both might find a friend
