"GRANDMOTHER'S BEAU"

Such a Gracious Lady
Back in her days
long ago
The lady that I speak of
She is my Grandmother
Such a Dear Sweet Soul

She tells me stories
of her beaus
Knocking at her door
Bringing bouquets
of flowers
Such a proper lady
One that was adored

So many young men
came calling
She laughs
when she tells me this
She gets a twinkle in her eye
Gives me a wink
and says,
"I was always
a proper young miss"

Sitting on the porch swing
On a warm summer night
Stars shine, moon was full
The setting was just right

She told me of
a special man
That got down on his knee
He took her hand
looked into her eyes
And asked,
"Will you marry me?"

She has told me this story
so many times
But, it is her fondest memory
So I listen and smile
and let her talk
Because that special man
was my Grandpa, you see

Oh how they loved
each other
for many, many years
All she has now are memories
And she tries to hide the tears

This Gracious Little Lady
So frail now and delicate
So many things
she does not remember
But the love she had for
Grandpa ...
She never does forget
